    Default Borish

Irvin Borish graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, NY in 1930. The High School is establishing a Wall of Fame to honor famous graduates and I submitted an application for Dr. Borish. The committee would like a personal letter of recommendation from a friend. If anyone on ODwire is a friend of Borish and would like to write a short letter of recommention, please let me know. I will send you the contact information. Thanks.

He's probably outlived all of his contemporaries. I had a very sweet, very with-it 95 year old lady in as a patient this past week. She had 44 classmates in her high school graduating class. She is the sole survivor.

I bet every O school president would be more than happy to write a letter of recommendation. Tell the committee he authored the "bible" on Optometry.

The committee has several professional letters of recommendation. They also want a personal letter.

That's one tough committee. Asking for a letter from a friend of a gentleman who's, what, 98 years old.

Who are some of your famous graduates?

I have known Irv and his wife Bea.

Although not bosom buddies, we have gone to lunch and dinner together.

If that counts send me the particulars and I'll produce a letter.

I didn't go to Liberty High School myself.

I was President of the Hudson Valley Optometric Society which includes the county that Liberty is in and I submitted Borish's name almost four years ago. It's taken that long for the school district to approve the Wall of Fame and now they're deciding who to put on it.

Liberty is a small town in the Catskills that for some unknown reason, produced Borish and also a man name Alan Gerry who dropped out of High School, started a TV repair shop and then started a cable company to improve the TV reception from the stations in New York City, about 100 miles away. This grew into a little company called Cablevision that he sold to Time Warner. Alan Gerry is a billionaire who I'm pretty sure will find his way onto the Wall of Fame, despite being a dropout.
