The lack of response to this is depressing. One can only take it that you're the only brave one of the bunch.
Could we get AWP if every OD treated advocacy with the same sense of necessity as their $100/mo cell phone bill? Yes. We would have a 36 million dollar per year AOAPAC and would be able to get virtually whatever we wanted politically.
Instead, we make excuses as individuals. We equivocate. I'm too busy. I'm too pissed at the AOA. I'm too pissed about this. I'm too pissed about that. I'm a Republican. I'm a Democrat. I hate politics. I'm too broke. That doesn't apply to MY situation.

I stopped taking spectera since 9/1/11. That included both private spectera plans and NJ medicaid plan. I was concerned at first on how that would effect my bottom line. Here is what happenned. When I compared my gross revenues for the past 3 months since I stopped taking spectera, I calculated that my gross revenues actually increased by 5.7% over the last 3 months compared to the same three months the year before. I have not yet calculated the change in net profit.
However, the fact that gross revenues went up and not down is a big plus. We are also spending less busy work for the meager reimbursments and very happy we no longer have to deal with the constant time and stress we used to have dealing with their lab.
I have other low quality plans that will be next on the chopping block.
My approach was to get rid of the worse one and waited to see how it would effect revenues. Over time, I hope to eliminate more of the low ball plans.
Why don't you simply start by eliminating your worse low ball plan and then wait awhile to see what happens. By doing this gradually, you will minimize any potential negative effects to your business. MOst likely, you will find that you have more time to spend with patients who have better quality plans, have less tedious work, and for more revenue per patients.
If that happens after you eliminate the first plan, that will give you the courage to eliminate the next lowest ball plan.
good luck.
