What is CEwire2017?

CEwire2017 is the premiere online optometric CE conference. It features 40 COPE-Approved Credit Hours, an all-star speaker lineup, and an exhibit hall with leading vendors, many offering discounts.

Register here.

When is CEwire2017?

The “live” portion of the conference is January 28 & 29, 2017. All lectures will be recorded, and posted online, where they will remain for 3 months.

Participants DO NOT have to attend live to get their credits. You can come back to the site at your leisure, any time before May 1st, 2017 to claim your credits.

Where is CEwire2017?

The entire conference is held online – there’s no need for expensive or time consuming travel.

How much does it cost?

CEwire2017 registration is only $179 for all 40 credits. If you are in a group practice, you can sign up 3 docs for $279.

Students, and any staff who don’t want to take the courses for credit may sign up for free.

Is there a list of speakers and courses?

The current course list can be viewed here.

The latest speaker list can be viewed here.

Is this the first time you’ve done this?

No! Our previous 2 events (CEwire2015 and CEwire2016) served nearly 5,000 ODs, and have provided participants with tens of thousands of COPE-approved CE credits.

How do I report my credits?

Once you complete a course, the system automatically sends proof of completion to ARBO via the ARBO tracker. Alternatively, you may print out your certificates are proof of completion.

What date does each course certificate show?

The date on the certificate is the date that you complete the course.

How many credits can I claim in my state?

Each state and province is different. Please consult this matrix to see where your state falls.

Are there tests?

Yes. Per COPE’s rules, every class has a 10-question test per lecture hour. “Passing” is 70%. You may take the tests as often as you need in order to pass.

Is this considered “Live” or “Correspondence”?

Some states may consider the two-day ‘live’ portion to be ‘live’ CE, since you can directly interact with the speakers during the lectures. Others consider the entire show internet-only. It is best to consult your state board for clarity around this issue.

Do I need a fancy computer or internet connection?

No. Minimally, you should have a Mac, Windows PC, phone or tablet that was built in the last 5 years. Your internet connection should have a download speed of at least 5Mbps; just about any broadband connection will work.

What is the exhibit hall? Can I buy stuff?

Many leading vendors are participating in our online exhibit hall. Some vendors are offering exclusive discounts to CEwire2017 members.

You may visit the exhibit hall in between classes. The exhibit hall includes videos, written literature, and live chat with each company’s employees.

Do you give to eye care charities?

CEwire2017 will share profits from the conference with The American Optometric Foundation and VOSH International.

We chose these two organizations because they focus on education and improving access to eye care; two things near and dear to our hearts.

I have more questions! Who can I contact?

Send us an e-mail, or ask a question about the conference on ODwire.org. We’d love to hear from you!

just a heads up but the link to the states allowed credits, incorrectly lists NY as only allowing 9 credits via the internet, and implies that one can only get that many credits from CEwire. IF an OD participates with the live sessions then the OD can obtain all of the required 36 credits.

Thanks Richard -- this is useful to know.

If other folks have contacfted their boards, please let us know what you discover. The variability between states is incredible.

So if you listen to the live CE and then take the test on another date that will be considered a live course correct? If CE courses are taken back to back to back there may not be enough time to take and pass the exams before the next CE course comes on. Also, what are the hours the live CE courses will take place on Saturday and Sunday?

Great question. The certificate is marked on the date of completion, I think it would be up to you to make sure that your board would be OK with you watching one day, and taking the tests later on.

last year there was just enough time to take the test before the next course started.

Per my state association (CAO), this does NOT count as live CE for us, and only counts towards the 6 hours of internet/online CE we can do. (for all the CT docs!)

Have you requested approval by the Texas Board? I think you gi ot it aproved for "live" hours in 2016 but it currently is not listed on the Texas Board website for 2017
