The Director of VOSH International asks...

"Most of you are aware of or have participated in VOSH missions and now you have an opportunity to help out in even a bigger way. A year ago the World Council of Optometry and UNESCO approached VOSH with a request to aid the Optometry programs in developing countries in South America and Africa. This occurred because many of the programs in these countries have classes of 50 students with one set of hand scopes and no funds to get more. Therefore, our goal is to solicit all the OD's and Optical Companies in the USA for outdated or unused instruments and equipment for donation to VOSH for use in these programs.

Now, go look in your garage, closet or attic or wherever you put those things you don't use anymore and contact me for instructions on where and how to ship them to be utilized in other countries. Specifically, what we are after are: retinoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, tangent screens, lensometers, phoropters, BIO's, slit lamps, keratometers, projecto-charts and trial lens kits. We can't use chairs and stands or equipment that needs to be repaired. Since VOSH is a 501c3 there may be a tax benefit for anything donated but that is an issue you will have to discuss with your accountant.

More information is available by going to the VOSH web site at: www.vosh.org and go to the TTP (technology transfer program) home page or contact me at jaforrey@comcast.net for directions on shipping.

Thank you for your consideration in this very worthwhile program and call with questions.
