I want to call your attention to a very important ne development that deserves special notification to all members of "Senior Doc". I hope you are able to publish this to your members. From your most senior member.

Subject: New opportunity for an Optometrist at JSEI

thought you might be interested in a new collaboration between
Ophthalmology and Optometry just starting, and which you might include in your e-mail notices via Senior Doc`s notices to the members of our profession.

Here is a letter of this program describing it:
" The Jules-Stein Eye Institute at UCLA has formed a committee of optometrists and ophthalmologists to raise the $500,000 for an Optometric Cliniician-Scientist at JSEI.

This chair is supported by the L.A. Co_Optometric Society, the
Southern California School of Optometry at Fullerton, as well as the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. Direct benefits will include the development of an essential educational programs, and broad- based research between optometrists and ophthalmologists. Those honored with endowed chairs at JSEI:

* foster excellence among their Peers

* draw other leading Scientists to their faculty

* attract the next generation of leadership in the field
>
* promote the high level of creativity and productivity for which JSEI is recognized

An appointment to this chair is limited to successive five-year periods allowing numerous scholars to carry the named professorship following incumbency

Private philanthropy is vital to accomplish this ambitious venture.

Those wishing to contribute may call JSEI at (310)206-6035,
write to JSEI at 100 Jules-Stein Plaza, Los Angeles, CA. 90095-7000, FAX to(310)794-1665 or e-mail to: www.jsei.org."

I used the Forum approach rather than a mass e mail to allow Members to comment. In addition, this is a salute to Ed Goodlaw who has contributed to Optometry longer than the lives of most of our members.
