What: National Sunglasses Day celebrates the power and importance of wearing sunglasses to protect the eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

How: The Vision Council Foundation's National Sunglasses Day campaign encourages people to protect their eyes from harmful UV radiation by wearing sunglasses. Everyone can participate by sharing a photo of themselves wearing sunglasses on social media and including the hashtag #NationalSunglassesDay.
Why: It's always important to protect your eyes from UV rays, which can have significant long and short-term impacts on vision and quality of life. UV damage is cumulative and can lead to serious eye health issues including cataracts, macular degeneration, and even growths on the eye. Even cloudy days don’t give a free pass, with studies revealing that more than 75% of UV rays can penetrate cloud cover.
