We'll be extending the the early registration to Monday 1/7/19 to accommodate those who have been traveling for the Holidays. That is definitely the final day when the pricing system changes.

No exceptions since it is automated.

Several ODs anxious to begin viewing the program did not understand that this is like a live program.

The door open 10:30am ET on 1/26/19. At that time all courses become available.

The schedule for 1/26 & 1/27 is being set up this week so participants decide which courses they wish to attend live.

A question arose from an Iowa OD which might be of concern to you...

    Hello,
I plan to “attend” this conference, but I have some concerns about how my state restricts online education.

I think it’s terrific that you are offering this service since my employer makes it very hard to travel to conferences both in how he does PTO and in not reimbursing travel expenses, but my state has limits on Correspondence courses. How is the CE obtained this way documented?

Here is the state guideline that I am concerned about: “maximum number of hours in each category in each biennium is as follows:

    (1) Ten hours of credit for local study group programs that meet the criteria.
    (2) Ten hours of credit for correspondence courses, which include written and electronically
transmitted material and have a posttest.”

If the CE obtained is documented as meeting attendance it will be counted differently than CE that is documented as a correspondence course. Please give more information about how CE certificates will be issued.

Is the CE documented differently if you view the live stream versus the archived files? I feel like I’ll get more out of my CE doing it this way, but of course, still have to satisfy the state of Iowa!

    Thanks
    !

    Adam's response...

    Thanks for reaching out!

The credits at CEwire2019 are all COPE-approved, and are approved two different ways, depending on when you watch the courses (we actually submit each course to COPE twice, to get the two different types of approval.)

If you watch them "live" on January 26th and 27th, you receive "Online Interactive" credits from COPE, and it is noted on your certificates. This type of credit means that you had the opportunity to interact with the speaker in real-time (in our case, via text-chat), and some state boards require this -- Iowa might be one of those, you might want to double-check with them.

New York is the most prominent example of a state that requires the interactivity in order for the credits to count as anything more than a correspondence course.

If you watch the lectures "on demand", any time between January 28th and July 1st, you'll get "Online Enduring" credits, The difference in the eyes of COPE is that there's no interactivity -- the speaker isn't there to ask questions live.

Hope it helps, please let me know if you have any other questions!
    Adam

Dr T.L. from Iowa responds to Adam's reply...

...I’m planning to call the Iowa department of health to see if interaction satisfies them or not. It’s frustrating that now that I’m in such a sparsely populated state and in the presence of better and better distance learning opportunities, distance learning is limited to 20%.

I’ll let you know if the IDPH clarifies for me at all.

    Thanks,

    T.L. OD FAAO

    Good news for Iowa ODs...

I received the rolling communication from Dr T.L....

    Hi Paul,
I received confirmation from the Iowa Department of Health that any INTERACTIVE online course is counted as if you were physically present at the conference whereas the online enduring courses would be capped at 10 credits per license renewal cycle. I have copied their email below in case you are interested!
    Thanks!

    The letter from the state...

    Hi T
Yes you may use that class if you can interact with the professor or teacher that will count as in person.

Editor's note: Take the time to check with you state certifying body whether CEwire2019 On line Interactive counts as being at a course in person. You may be allowed credit you did not anticipate without leaving home or office

    A report from Dr W M from Tennessee ...

... I’ve just today heard back from our board that your online program checks all of their boxes for approval...
