Wake-Up Call...if you're awake

Read the article to see the viewpoint of the writer on the skill and competency of ODs vs MDs. We all know, or should know, ...... millions and millions of patients feel the exact same way.

Is it possible to contact this idiot and correct his misconceptions? Clearly he's got a bias, but it could just be ignorance on his part. I'm sure physicians can very easily paint us a certain way to those willing to listen.

I think it's interesting that he specifically mentioned board certification, though. The AOA should be making correcting this article it's first order of business.

when the bill had been recently passed and signed into law, there was a plethera of articles in local papers. I can't begin to explain the lack of knowledge (and the lack of checking facts) that was exhibited in the majority of these articles.

I remember reading one article (on the Courier Journal's website - a very well respected publication on a national level) where the writer stated that "optometrists can't even prescribe medications, so how are they qualified to perform surgery?".

As a journalist, one should get the facts before making such statements.

He's an MD. He doesn't have misconceptions, he's just a sore loser.

I don't see anything blatantly false in there, it's all just about painting us in as bad a light as possible.

When are these guys gonna learn. We can't have ODs using drops because people will have heart attacks and then what will happen. This guy seems to think that ODs will lose all common sense and just start hacking away at patients eyes just because we can. This type of attack is common and hasn't worked before because legislators have historically understood what is in the patients best interest.
