"When asked by a Marketplace producer for her PD, a Pearle Vision clerk responded that they were not allowed to divulge that information."

This is the first time I have heard of a corporate optical with a PD policy. Do any of the American chains have the same policy?

I have to say it always bugs me when I hear people talk about the costs of glasses. I wonder how people who are legally blind would respond if given the chance to use a device that would improve their vision to the level of fully functional for $42 per month. (A $1000 pair of glasses (this articles high price) breaks down to less than $42 per month over two years). That is less than one pays for cable tv....but this device allows them to live a life free from being visually handicapped. I don't get the whining about the cost.

And now they're running a poll asking if opticians should refract, with the suggestion that it would reduce costs of eyewear (how I'm not sure).

Everyone should go here and vote no.

Bruce Bergez is touted as a hero in this story, which diminishes any credibility these two-bit 'journalists' could have. Bergez has been convicted of contempt:

News Bulletin: Next episode of Marketplace will discuss why Bernie Madoff should be paroled and be allowed to teach a course in investment ethics at Wharton.
