JACKSONVILLE, FL – June 23, 2025 – Today, Johnson & Johnson,† a global leader in eye health, announced the launch of ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day MULTIFOCAL for ASTIGMATISM, the first and only daily disposable contact lens for people with both astigmatism and presbyopia.1 This pioneering contact lens provides patients crisp, clear, stable vision at all distances and in all lighting conditions, along with comfort that lasts all day.2 The lens is now available in the U.S. and Canada, and the launch of ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day for ASTIGMATISM is expected later this summer.

“Building on our legacy of firsts, we are thrilled to launch ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day MULTIFOCAL for ASTIGMATISM,” said Peter Menziuso, Company Group Chairman, Vision at Johnson & Johnson.‡ “ACUVUE is the world’s leading contact lens brand* and with these new products, we now have the first and only complete family of daily-disposable contact lenses.#1 Clear sight empowers people to live their best lives, and we believe everyone should have the opportunity to achieve it. That’s why we focus our innovation on areas with the greatest unmet needs for patients. Today, we are working to fufill that promise, providing millions of patients with a differentiated ACUVUE experience.”

“Finally, patients with both presbyopia and astigmatism can enjoy the freedom and comfort of a daily disposable lens without compromising the quality of their vision,” said Dr. Mark Wells, “This new lens was designed to help patients who struggle with multiple vision correction issues, allowing them to experience the comfort and clarity of MAX.”2

Based on extensive studies, 95% of people wearing ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-DAY MULTIFOCAL for ASTIGMATISM contact lenses reported their vision was clear during their daily activities,§ 2 while 87% saw clearly while driving at night.§ 2 Additionally, 92% of of wearers said their eyes felt comfortable throughout the entire day.¶ 2

Astigmatism affects about 50% of the population,3 making it one of the most common vision conditions. It is characterized by imperfections in the curvature of the eye, leading to distorted or blurred vision. Presbyopia, commonly beginning in the early to mid-40s, is the gradual loss of near vision. Traditionally, there has been a gap for people with astigmatism when they begin to experience presbyopia. They’ve had to make compromises by either switching from daily contact lenses to reusables, or layering reading glasses over their contact lenses.

The ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day MULTIFOCAL for ASTIGMATISM contact lens is built with the combination of four proprietary technologies4 which enable its comfort and visual results: BLINK STABILIZED Design helps the lens stay put, so vision is not distorted or blurry when you blink or move your head.2,4 PUPIL OPTIMIZED Design helps meet presbyopic vision needs, even as you age and your vision continues to change.5 TearStable Technology helps keep the lens hydrated, facilitating end of day comfort.†† 2,6,7,8 Finally, the OptiBlue Light Filter provides 60% blue-violet light filtering, the highest in the industry.**‡‡ 7,8

Later this summer, the ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day for ASTIGMATISM contact lens will launch in both the U.S. and Canada, making the ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Family of lenses the first and only complete daily disposable family of contact lenses on the market.# 1 Both ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day MULTIFOCAL for ASTIGMATISM and ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day for ASTIGMATISM are planned to be introduced in additional markets outside North America during 2025 and beyond. I like the addition to the field an don't want to be negative but no other Astigmatic MF does this confidently or consistently in most cases

" This pioneering contact lens provides patients crisp, clear, stable vision at all distances and in all lighting conditions, along with comfort that lasts all day."

Following how well received the new Oasys MF design has been and the Max 1 DAy MF has been I am very hopeful this could be a boon for astigmats. Ordering some for my wife today.

Optician phoned rep and said will be available July 1

It's all about volume!

I'm feeling a little bit hopeful about this one. I seem to have had better than expected results with the Max MF. Maybe it was a good idea to make 1D of cyl the standard. That has the potential to put a large chunk of patients into a MF who would otherwise have had blurry vision with a MF SCL. If they put more than 1D, it probably would mess up the optics too much. Professor Kiener will make the final judgment on this and then we will know for sure.

Large chunk of patients? More patients, sure, but at only 1D, you're missing another larger chunk.

Here's my take on this.

IMHO, the biggest "fails" in MF contact lens fitting is not correcting astig, especially ATR. So kudos to J&J for getting in the game.

I am a good example. I have 1.50 (on a good day) to 1.75 cyl X 90 along with +1.00 sphere. So for me, that J&J 1D astig is pretty useless. I know that because Cooper BF Toric MF at -1.25 leaves exactly.50 x 90 behind and that takes me down from 20/20 to 20/30-ish. Not terrible, but I would sure like that extra .50.

But wait! They make that! Yay! It works perfectly as expected. Gotta use up my 1.25 boxes first. These lenses aint cheap!

So if J&J wants to go 1D cyl, that is seriously limiting patient uptake. It's incorrect thinking in any event. Those .75 cyl patients are left behind. B&L, Cooper and the others have it right by offering .75 and up in .5D steps. That makes sense. A single cyl at 1D does not.

What does make J&J attractive is the daily disposable (or multi-day re-use or overnight use if it works for that), depending upon the net annual costs.

PS: I've fit custom toric MF up to -2.75 with great success. If the lens is rotationally stable and not flexing with blink, there's no reason not to fully correct the astig.

Oh....wait. There is. If it's under 1D-ish and WTR, uncorrected that actually can improve near VA, especially if it is in the non-dom eye.

I’ve found patients with astigmatism see surprisingly well with the spherical Acuvue MF. Give the 1 diopter lens a try. I’ll bet you’ll see better than you expect.
