We're rolling out the conference today! We gave Supporting Members a sneak-peek over the holiday weekend, now we're going to make a more generalized announcement to all past CEwire attendees, then to the broader group of ODs.

Here's a little FAQ based on what people have asked me so far:

    1. What is GPLIwire2017?
GPLIwire2017 is the first virtual CE conference dedicated exclusively to specialty contact lenses.

    2. When is it?
The live portion of the show will be held online, September 23 & 24, 2017. Registrants can also watch "on-demand" from that date through December 1, 2107. So, if you can't make it live, no problem!

    3. What courses will be given? How many credits?
The course list can be seen here. All courses will be COPE-approved, and we'll have 32 credit hours total.
We are also applying for NCLE credits for courses at the show -- stay tuned to this spot for status updates!

    4. Will there be an exhibit hall?
Yes, just like CEwire, there will be an exhibit hall! Here are the list of vendors so far -- if you are into specialty lenses, you'll probably recognize 'em all! They'll have a bunch of info about their products, you can chat live with folks from each company, and many will be offering discounts to show goers.

    5. Who is putting on this conference? And Why?
GPLIwire2017 is being jointly produced by two groups:
    • ODwire.org, and as you probably know by now, we've previously produced the CEwire series of virtual conferences (with over 7,000 ODs participating so far!)
    • The GP Lens Institute - the GPLI is the educational division of the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association, an industry trade group that counts most specialty CL vendors as members.
Many people had asked us to produce an "off-season" CEwire-style event, and the GPLI approached us earlier in the year about producing this conference.

We felt it was a good fit for us and ODwire.org members, since the interest in specialty lenses is big and growing.

Thus GPLIwire2017 was hatched. We're thrilled to be working with the GPLI, and hope attendees find this conference useful.

    6. Will there be a Livestream like CEwire?
Yes, Paul and I plan to do our typical live broadcast, with speaker and vendor interviews, and the latest blow-by-blow of what's happening at the conference.

Many of the speakers at the conference are on Pacific's faculty, so I plan to try to abduct a couple of them and get them into the studio live with us during the show... we'll see how it goes! :)

    7. How much does the conference cost?
$199 for all 32 COPE credits, through August 1st, then the price increases to $249.

    Students can register for free.

    Register here!

If you have any more questions, please post 'em here!!

    Thanks
    Adam

A question came in that might be of general interest...

    Dear Sirs:

Virginia had a change in its C E requirements. We are required to take 10 hours that meet this requirement:

"3. At least 10 hours shall be obtained through real-time, interactive activities, including in-person or electronic presentations, provided that during the course of the presentation, the licensee and the lecturer may communicate with one another"

In your opinion does your conference offer this type of class?

Are the live classes spread out all day so you could take several live classes each day?

Are you required to take a test after each class to earn a certificate? Virginia does not require testing, only that you have proof of attendance of live class.

Will the certificate differentiate clearly that it was taken live, versus at a later "non-live", on demand time.

    Ok to answer on line.
    Thank you,

    My response...

    Thanks for your inquiry.

GPLIwire2017 offers two days of live presentations on 9/24/17 and 9/25/17 from 11am ET to 6PM ET. Speakers will be standing by to allow for questions during the presentations.

You will take an exam at the end of each session. You must achieve 70% to pass. If you do not pass, you may retake the test. There will proof of attendance that you participated in the live presentations.

In our opinion this meets the requirements of the Virginia optometry state board. You should check with your state board to verify.

We look forward to your participation.

    Best regards.

    Paul

The approach offering two days of live presentations followed by several months of courses "On Demand " were designed to offer live on line to meet state board requirements.

    Check with your state boards.

The instructors and the coarse quality speak for themselves. State Boards should agree that the instructors standing by for the first two days of GPLIwire2017, should meet the criteria for live attendance.
