In this ODwire TV episode, we speak with Dr. Casey Hogan of Oak Lawn, IL on Sjogren's Syndrome, and how she used her passion for treating the disease (and her personal experience with the condition) to help build her practice.

She also shares tips on how docs can identify and manage these patients and how to send & receive referrals from other specialists, such as rheumatologists.

I think in 19 years, every single patient I've send for Sjogrens testing has come back as "inconclusive."

I hate talking about it with my patients because I can't pronounce it even after hearing it a thousand times.

Thanks again to Dr. Hogan for taking the time to speak with us!

Her story is incredible, an a reminder that Sjogren's isn't just about dry eye -- it can have real, life-threatening sequelae. (Hard to believe her ICU stint happened during finals - talk about bad luck!)

I have not had time to watch the vid. Dr. Casey Hogan does an awesome job with dry eye and with diagnosing Sjogren's patients. She is not only a doctor, she is also the patient.

Full disclosure: my daughter works with Dr. Hogan.

Everyone should listen to Dr. Hogan's story -- it is harrowing. So it isn't a surprise that she's passionate about the disease and autoimmune conditions generally.

The thrust of the interview though is finding your own passion, and turning it into something you can use to build your practice. I'm curious if others have done something similar (outside of dry eye.)

Forgot to mention, she brings up the sjogren's foundation in the interview:
