While you are waiting to receive approval for the Private Forums, you might wish to review some of the earlier posts as well as the Articles. For clarity it is best to begin reading the posts from the bottom up.

You will recognize many of the individuals, who share their thoughts with the community. Some names, new to you, will be optometrists from outside the US who are contributors to the profession.

The community is fortunate to have recognized experts in every area of Optometry. In addition we have non-Optometric authorities to answer questions as well.

For example our webmaster, Docwolf is known outside the Internet world as
Adam Wolf Farkas, M.D., M.B.A.
He has three areas of expertise....General Medicine, Business Administration and Computer Technology with emphasis on Internet Communities. Adam designed and built our web site as a thank you to Optometry for support during his years and years and years of training. So if your large healthcare organizaton has management or computer difficulties Docwolf has the prescription. Just ask. He spends agood deal of time travelling , but his computer is at his side and he will remain, our webmaster problem solver.

In addition we have an Internationally known OMD as part of our community, who was raised in Optometry. His father is an AAO member and a Diplomate in the Cornea/Contact Lens Section. He is a Professor, Author and Clinician who will be answer questions as required.

He, as well as our Practice Management , Business and Real Estate advisors will remain anonymous until their first post. Our community membership is confidential since many of our members prefer to observe rather than participate.

To maintain confidentiality, I and Docwolf are the only individuals who know the entire membership. I do, at times, request an expert response from one of our community members. You will appreciate this wealth of talent and opinions from members of the community. There is no censorship and no sponsorship by either Organizations or Industry. This is a not for profit website devoted to the education and sometimes entertainment of optometrists. So learn and enjoy.

Posting Statistics

Our Webmaster, who is a recognized Medical Internet expert has stated that only 1 post occurs for each 100 participants coming on line. This may be OK for a site open to a large general memberships.

For smaller specialized private web sites such as ours, we have to better than that, or only a few individuals will control the conversation. So if you have a comment feel free to post it . Sending a post is as simple as e mail.

We'll see you in the Private Forums.

Forums for all age groups

We are called "Seniordoc" and indeed we have Topics in our Forums such as the "Retirement Issues Forum" that will be of greater interest to older ODs. On the other end of the age scale however, our topics in the Student and Recent Grad Forum may be of greater interest to our younger members.

It is a good idea for each age group to look at Forums that they would not ordinarily visit, to gain insights into problems of colleagues of other age groups. This leads to better understanding, especially if you are in an multidoctor associate practice.

Opinions are invited from all age groups in all Forums. One of the goals of our Web site is to learn from one another and celebrate differences.

Activated Archived Topics

With our first year nearly completed, many important subjects that may still be relevant to our newer members have been brought back from our archives.

You may wish to comment on some of the older topics. Once you add your thoughts, this older topic goes to the head of the topics in that Forum. It is current again and all the previous participants are e mailed to inform them that the topic that interested them in the past is again active.

When you have the time, read these older topics. You may find a pearl or two.

Have a Happy New Year!
